Beth Harmon, played by Anya Taylor-Joy, is a little orphan girl in the 1950s who discovers she is exceptional at chess and quickly rises to a genius.

The series follows Beth as she goes from an impoverished upbringing in an orphanage to international chess superstardom. She faces challenges along the road, including addiction, isolation, the stress of competition, and her fears and trauma.

Reports agree that the show’s stories, acting, and production values are all top-notch. Anya Taylor’s portrayal in the lead role of Joy as Beth Harmon has been heralded as a career high point by critics. An unfortunate fatality occurred at West Point, New York’s United States Military Academy, in 1830. Augustus Landor (Bale), a former investigator, also tasked with looking into the matter. Landor discovers the cadet’s heart is missing, and there are signs of a violent death on his neck.

Young military student Edgar Allen Poe (Harry Melling) heard that Landor (Brian Bloom) is interesting in the case, so he offered to assist him. Edgar Allan Poe, who also penned “The Fall of the House of Usher,” also authored “The Raven.” Intriguing right up to the final scene, this gothic mystery will have audiences glued to their seats.
